Buzzard and name will go here
History
Hello, my name is Ben D. King (the buzzard) and this is the story behind the WHITE TRASH BAR & GRILL. In 1988 my parents, J.B. & Jean King moved from their home on Lay Lake in Shelby County, Alabama, back to the Kingdom community onto property that has been in our family for five generations. The property is situated on Beeswax Creek in the area of “Browning’s Mill Pond”, and is the perfect place for cookouts & family outings. Our Daddy, with the help of our Mama, started with a tarp stretched  between two trees and some benches made of concrete blocks & boards. The project grew from that to its present day size of a series of sheds tied together with other sheds. Entertaining was daddy’s passion. Mama and Daddy hosted cookouts, ranging from fish fries and barbeques to a “chitling” festival in the fall. During one of the many “chitling” festivals a good friend of his, Hylott Armstrong, exclaimed, “J.B., you know we are living it up, like WHITE TRASH.” Later, J.B. received a White Trash Cookbook. It didn’t take long for J.B. to decide the name for this place on the creek, in the Kingdom needed to be the WHITE TRASH BAR & GRILL.

The WHITE TRASH BAR & GRILL is privately owned and is not opened to the public except by invitation. When asked “what kind of place is it?”, I  tell people “it’s like Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, it’s a state of mind”. Nestled between two mountains and on the creek, it is a place with lights strung everywhere, fire pits, wood burning stoves, a glass shower door for the bar top, a cold drink machine and a swimming hole.

The WTB&G has been host to wedding receptions, birthday parties, wakes, all holidays when barbeque is traditionally served, church picnics, Sunday school parties and the MAIN EVENT, the annual WHITE TRASH BAR & GRILL CHILI COOKING CONTEST, which is held the second Saturday in January each year, rain or shine, hot or cold.

The WTB&G also is home to WTB&G POLAR BEAR CLUB! New Years day the strong at heart and weak of mind go for their annual dip in Beeswax Creek. It goes without saying, there aren’t many members.

Our Daddy died about eight years ago, but before passing away Daddy asked me to keep the WHITE TRASH BAR & GRILL operating just as it had been when His health was good. So with the help of my Mama, Jean, Debra my wife, my brother Johnny King and his family, my sister Betsy King Gonzalez and her family and a host of friends, the fun continues at the WHITE TRASH BAR & GRILL, on the creek, in the Kingdom.
